UP's social welfare minister Ramapati Shastri informed the state assembly that the pension scheme introduced by Samajwadi Party was withheld after the ministry found that out of the 50 lakh beneficiaries more than 4 lakh were ineligible and 43,000 were actually dead. The scheme was a key poll promise of the SP in 2012 assembly elections.
