Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) faces his biggest political challenge in this assembly election. His party, Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) rode the statehood sentiment to come to power in the newly formed Telangana state in 2014. This time around, TRS faces a Grand Alliance or ‘Mahakutumi’ with Congress, TDP, CPI and TJAC coming together. KCR is banking heavily on his social welfare schemes like Rythu Bhima Life Insurance Scheme, 24-hour free power supply for farmers, supply of safe drinking water under Mission Bhagiratha, the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak scheme for marriage of eligible women to help him sail through. When KCR had decided to go in for early polls, experts believed he had out-maneuvered the opposition. But with Rahul Gandhi and Chandrababu Naidu joining hands, has the move backfired on TRS in Telangana?
