CBI feud exposes phone tap misuse

Any agency in Delhi needs to take written permission from the home secretary for executing lawful interception of any phone number. They also need to justify why they need to tap that particular number. However, there is a provision in Indian Telegraph Act for 'emergency cases' in which a top officer of that agency can provisionally authorise the interception.
