The INS calls for urgent intervention of the government to save the Indian newspaper industry by scrapping the unbearable burden imposed on it. The INS urges the government to withdraw the 10% customs duty imposed on uncoated paper for newspapers and lightweight coated paper for magazines. India’s total consumption of newsprint is estimated at 2.5 million tonnes annually.
